What are terpenes and why are they important?

Terpenes are aromatic compounds found in many plants, including herbs, flowers, and cannabis. They give these plants their characteristic scents and flavors and play a crucial role in their properties.

Below you'll find some more explanation and at the bottom of the page you'll find which cannabis strains are best suited to your mix!

What do terpenes do?

Give taste and smell:

Terpenes are aromatic molecules responsible for the scent and flavor of plants, such as flowers, herbs, and fruits. They evaporate easily, releasing recognizable aromas like the citrus scent of limonene or the lavender-like scent of linalool. In nature, they attract pollinators and protect plants from pests.

Influencing effects:

Terpenes can influence our mood, stress levels, and even pain perception. Terpenes can also influence the effects of plants. They work together with other compounds, such as cannabinoids in cannabis or flavonoids in herbs, to enhance their therapeutic properties. This interplay is known as the "entourage effect."

  • For example, the combination of raspberry leaf and calendula with myrcene-rich cannabis can have a deeply relaxing and healing effect.
Medical Applications:

Both terpenes and herbs can have medicinal properties.

Terpenes are being studied for their anti-inflammatory, analgesic, and antimicrobial properties. In aromatherapy and herbal medicine, they play a role in relaxation, focus, pain relief, promoting sleep, and supporting digestion.

However, we do not make any claims that the products we sell have a medical effect.
