Canna caramel

Craving something sweet with an extra kick? This canna-caramel combines the rich, creamy taste of traditional caramel with the relaxing properties of cannabis. Perfect as a dessert topping or even an addition to your latte.

Whether you're an experienced edibles maker or just want to try something new, this recipe will make a delicious and filling treat.

  • Supplies

    - (Soup) pan with lid
    - Glass jar with lid (min. 500 ml)
    - Aluminum foil
    - Oven mitts or towel
    - tea towel
    - 1 can of condensed milk.
    - For every gram of hash, 1 tablespoon of brown caster sugar. (Do you like the taste of hash?
    tasty, then do not use more than 1 tablespoon. This is mainly for preserving the flavor of the
    caramel)

    You can also follow this recipe with decarboxylated cannabis, just remember to pour the still warm, liquid caramel through a sieve before letting it cool completely.

    Caution! read the instructions carefully, it can be dangerous to make this. You are working with glass and pressure-building heat!

  • Cannabis dosage:

    Dosage per can of condensed milk:

    - Newbie 1 - 1,5gr
    - Regular 1,5 - 2 gr
    - Experienced 2 - 3 gr
    - Astronaut 3 - 4 gr

    Anything above this dosage is not recommended.

    Preparation time: 20-30 min Cooking time: 3 - 4 hours
    Dosage of the caramel: 1 teaspoon is probably enough!
    Delicious in your coffee, as a topping for your dessert or use it instead of sugar in your homemade chocolate milk ;)

  • Step 1

    1. Take the can of condensed milk and pour it into the jar, then add the desired amount of brown caster sugar and mix the mixture well.
    2. Crush the hash and mix it into the jar.
      (If you have decarboxylated the hash it is already fine enough)
    3. Don't screw a lid on the jar tightly , but seal the jar with the mixture with 2 to 3 layers of aluminum foil or a reusable silicone cap so that enough heat and some air can escape but the THC and/or CBD remains in the jar. Try to make it fit as well as possible and keep it around the place where the lid would normally be, you want to prevent the aluminum foil from getting into the water.

  • Step 2

    1. Fill the pan with cold water up to 1 cm from the rim of the pot and the aluminum foil.
    2. Turn the heat to medium and place a lid on the pan, it doesn't matter if it fits perfectly, and let it all heat up together.
    3. When the water starts to boil, turn the heat down to the lowest setting and check every 30 minutes if there is enough water in the pan so that the pot remains at least 3/4 underwater . I set a timer for this so that I don't forget.
    4. Let the water simmer very gently for the next 3 to 4 hours
  • Step 3

    1. After 1.5 hours, remove the jar from the water using oven mitts or a cloth to handle the jar and place the hot jar on a tea towel on the counter to stir the mixture.
      - Be careful the pot is hot! Stir it carefully and put the pot back on the stove as soon as possible
      possible, covered again with aluminum foil, back into the warm water.
      - Do not leave the jar out of the hot water for too long: If the glass cools/heats too quickly, the jar may crack/explode!
    2. You will know when you are nearing the end of the process when the condensed milk darkens and turns a caramel color. You should also see (almost) no more chunks of hash and brown sugar so that you have an even mixture after stirring. The longer you let the mixture caramelize, the firmer the caramel will be.
    3. If you find the mixture too hard, add a dash of milk or (whipped) cream when the mixture is lukewarm and heat it up a bit so that you can mix it well, do not let the water in the pan boil again.

Step 4

  1. Turn off the heat and repeat step 8
    - Be careful, the pot is hot!
  2. Place the jar back in the water and let the jar with the caramel cool down gradually in the pan for at least an hour. When the water and the jar have cooled down, you can take the jar out and stir it well again. - Optional : add some salt grains at the end if you want to have salted caramel.

Place the jar with lid in the refrigerator when it has cooled completely or in a container in the freezer. You can store it in the refrigerator for about 1 week, in the freezer for 6 months.
